A TRIBUTE TO KEN CALTON

Ken was a tremendous man of God and a wonderful example to us throughout his life.  It is good to imitate the Godly qualities we see in others and to honour Ken would be to follow his example.  So what would he want us to learn from his life?
  • First, the Church was his love and his life.  Over 20 years in faithful fellowship, he would come rain or shine and I don't just mean the weather.  Just like a stick of Blackpool rock commitment to the church family ran through the core of his being. Such was his dismay when the fickle nature of others did not show that same commitment.

  • Jesus was always number one and he constantly talked about how great God was and what he had done for him - a great lesson for us all.
  • Ken was steadfast.  Whatever happened you could trust him to remain faithful.  I know if he had been offended in any way he would never let it affect his covenant with God and the church.
  • Ken was an encourager.  He never grumbled or moaned.  In this last year when it was very difficult for him and even in his last days in hospital he was praising the nurses and doctors who in turn referred to him as 'an angel'. How refreshing.
  • He was a man of the Spirit.  His concern , reflected in the last letter he wrote to us all, was that everyone should experience the baptism of the Holy Spirit and move in the gifts of the Spirit.
  • Ken was loving and considerate and very generous in every way.
  • He was always upbeat and in faith.  He didn't entertain any negative approach to his life or gossip about others.
  • He was a man of integrity.  You could trust him completely in his motives and his loyalty.
  • Serving in the RAF in the war Ken was in 635 Pathfinder Squadron whose motto is, "We lead, others follow," He was a leader and a great example to follow.
  • He also served in 156 Squadron whose motto is "We light the way." and Ken truly shone as an ambassador for Jesus.
I would encourage you to remember and honour Ken by seeking to be like him in these ways:
  1. Keep being filled with the Holy Spirit
  2. Keep Jesus as your Lord, as number one in your life, always and not just in the good times.
  3. Be totally committed to the church.  Whatever happens have the backbone to be stick at it and not an 'okey cokey christian' - in, out, in, out, shake it all about when things don't go your way!
  4. Be steadfast and faithful
  5. Be faithful, an encourager not one who gossips and tears down.
  6. Be loving,considerate and generous
  7. Be upbeat and full of faith in every circumstance
  8. Be loyal, a person of integrity who can be trusted by everyone.
  9. Be a good example for others to follow and shine the light of Jesus so that others might see him in you.
We saw all of this in Ken didn't we?  With God's help and the power of the Holy Spirit at work others will see Jesus in us too.
