DON'T FORGET TO REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE

Martyn spoke at the whole church meeting last Sunday reminding us that we are made in the image of God. To look into the mirror of God's word and recognise who he made us to be.  When we take our eyes away from the mirror we can forget and slip back into our old way of thinking about ourselves and our old habits. It is the truth that sets us free to live life to the full as God intended.

In the evening at Cafe Church Ben spoke from Ephesians 2: 1-10 on a very similar theme.  Once we were in effect dead in our sin but God made us alive in Christ by his grace and mercy.  Now we are seated in heavenly places with Christ with the authority and blessings that he paid for on the cross. We will only be truly effective when we grasp who we are and what we have and that understanding can only come form immersing ourselves in God's word - the mirror.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. James 1:22-25

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
