Thanks to everyone who made the canal boat trip from Whaley Bridge this Saturday such a good church family time together.  Lots of time to chat as the boat cruised along at a steady 4 miles per hour whilst we enjoyed a lovely meal as always.  A NLC Grace Award to Angie who was teased without mercy by the boat owner who remembered she had locked herself in the toilet on the last trip!

After our BBQ at the Spire on July 26th the next big NLC outing is our trip to Scarborough on August 10th.  We are taking bookings for the coach now (£10 adults, £5 school age children).  Open invitation to join us - so invite you friends and neighbours to come for a day at the seaside but booking in advance is essential please.

Eyong Enoh played in Cyprus and South Africa before getting his break with Ajax in Amsterdam then after six seasons moved to Antalyaspor in Turkey this year.  He will be playing for the Cameroon national team tonight against Croatia in the World Cup in Brazil...

His faith in Jesus is an important part of Enoh's life. 'I did not grow up in a Christian family background.  My parents did not go to church, but a friend of mine in school spoke to me about the Lord Jesus.  His words touched my heart and the gospel became very real to me.  Ever since that day I have just been in love with Jesus.

Once I gave my heart to Christ I knew I found the thing I needed because I felt peace in my heart - that peace that cannot be traded for anything.  The second thing that came to me was that I understood I was living with a purpose.  There was a reason I was alive - to talk about Jesus.

I realised God had given me a talent and football was part of it.  Through football I could preach the gospel also....

In Romans 10:9 you read: 'If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord' and believe in your heart God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.'

It is in confessing the Lord Jesus Christ that you can receive that eternal life that he paid for on the cross.  That is how I got it.  That is how anybody can get it.

When you recognise that Jesus died on the cross, paid the price for you and has taken care of your sins and you accept him into your heart, you automatically become a child of God.  It's not up to you.  It is up to him.  He has already done it.'

Cameroon may not be one of the favourites for the World Cup... but whatever
the outcome Eyong Enoh's relationship with Jesus will make him a winner!

If you are working or you can't make Sunday morning this week - there's a second chance to hear Ralph and Renuka at Cafe Church.

Join us 6.00pm at The Compass (West Bars) for a great worship time lead by our live band, followed by a short talk by Ralph with coffee and cake to finish off.

Everyone welcome!

For many years NLC have supported Rays of Joy which is the ministry team set up by Ralph and Renuka Gloeckner.  They live and work near Agra in India where they have built a series of children's homes to help deal with the large number of children who have no one to care for them.

Each house is looked after by a couple who run it as a family home caring for a dozen orphaned children as well as their own children as one large family.  They have facilities for education and the children become part of the wider church family.

Their ministry reaches far beyond this one project - looking to train Christian leaders, working with women, helping children in slum areas, supporting children from poor families in their education....

Our support was initially financial to help build the first homes, but we have since sent NLC folk (alongside some from Airedale Church in Keighley) to work on building projects and to get involved with teaching adults and children.

We are looking forward to hearing all the latest from Sharonsthan and to catching up with this lovely Christian couple.

So no meetings in Alfreton or Stretton this week as we will all be meeting together at the Chesterfield Hotel.  Teas and coffees from 9.50 for a 10.30 start.
