CELEBRATION OF WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY 26th JANUARY

Join us this Sunday as the whole church meets together at The Winding Wheel 10.30 am for a celebration of worship.  We won't be having a speaker this morning but we are still expecting that God will speak to each of us as we come together in his presence to bring our praise and worship.  We are looking to see people healed and set free, refreshed and renewed, strengthened and encouraged as the Holy Spirit ministers to and through us.  It will be a great time - make sure you're there!!

UPDATE FROM MATT IN RWANDA

Yo, just got internet for the first time today. Tell everyone its proper good here, it's red hot and I'm getting my tan on. I've taught my first three sports sessions to the kids at the school we're working at and they've gone really well. We've lead bible devotions at 7am every morning to the local pastors, which is a killer but they're good and we've helped build mud houses and farm and taught art classes and loads of stuff. The AEE, which is the local pastors together organisation that we're working with have asked me to coach their basketball and volleyball teams so I've coached one session of that so far which was good. Yeah that's basically everything. Also, how did town lose 3-0? And have man u actually signed mata?

WORDS TO THE CHURCH SUNDAY 5TH JANUARY 2014

The word for the church this morning was that God says,
“Yes I am the still small voice but I am also the fire in the bush. I am the God of fire and I have placed within each one of you a measure of fire and it is time to re-ignite the fire inside of you for this is the year of Fire and of Life.
For it is the fire in your bones that has to burn again and there has been a heritage of those who have sown in prayer and tears, those men and women who have sown in their inner rooms, in the secret place with tears and it is time to pick up those seeds that was sown and to speak the word of God with fire and with the Spirit.
For the Spirit will give life to the word you speak and the time of sleep and slumber is over – now is the time of Fire and Life – the fire and life of the Spirit. Rise up because this is the year of Fire and Life for this church – Fire and Life in the Spirit.” (Petra)

Time we looked at what we do and how we think. Start asking yourself "How would Jesus react in this situation?  What would he do?"  Then do what you know he would do, speak the words he would speak and choose to be more like Jesus every day. That is how we bring the fire of God to life in our lives. (Trev)

Some of you by nature are lambs and some are lions.  I feel God is saying in these times in order for us to rise up lambs will need to become lions by his Spirit and lions will need to learn to be lambs. (Di)

STREET PASTORS AID DROP IN CRIME

Derbyshire Times 2nd February 2014 article by Sam McCaffrey:

Chesterfield town centre has seen violent crime
and anti-social behaviour drop by 20% - thanks to patrolling Street Pastors.

The initiative was set up in August 2011 with Christians Together for Chesterfield to help police deal with drunk and vulnerable people in the town centre on Saturday nights.  Statistics show that since the group started violence is down in the town centre by 15% and anti-social behaviour by 20%.

Pastors help people who are drunk avoid going to hospital or into police custody - and say their secret weapon is an endless supply of lollipops.  A spokesman for the pastors said: "Many a situation that could have escalated, getting really silly, ending , with the police involved and people being taken off in a police van to be locked up, is diffused  by the offer of a lolly from the pastors."

Street Pastors also clear glass to stop people getting injured and since they started in August 2011 they have cleared more than 3,000 glass items from the town centre.

The programme is made up completely of volunteers from town churches that work in teams of three or four and patrol the centre on a Saturday night between 10pm and 4am.  The youngest street pastor in Chesterfield is 19 and the oldest is 76.

They help distressed revelers by calling their friends or family, by giving them water or waiting with them until they are sober enough to make their way home.  They talk to people try to calm situations down, give out bottled water, blankets and first aid.  They are also armed with bright pink flip flops to give to women who can no longer walk in their heels.

Their contribution to Chesterfield was acknowledged by the High Sheriff who invited them to his legal service as his guests.

Steven Ball, Section Inspector for Chesterfield Borough said:"I've nothing but praise for them since they have been working in the town centre.  They effectively filled a gap that we'd got in terms of vulnerable people who go out within the night time economy.  There are invariably three or four incidents that they'll report where someone has been found in a drunken state or has no way of getting home, and they will have dealt with that person.

MESSAGE FROM PETER

I suppose it's a bit late to think about forming a Christmas list.  I do know of one young man who began formulating his list last April. No sense leaving things until the last minute!

A friend of mine has challenged me because she begins her Christmas list in January. However, her list is different because it is not a wish list for what she would like but rather, it is a list of names and appropriate gifts that she can give to them. My friend has seriously challenged my thoughts about Christmas in particular and life in general. To be a generous giver!

ACTS.20:35 ...remember the words of The Lord Jesus, how he himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

But why is it more blessed to give than to receive? Simply that when we are generous givers we are being imitators of God (EPH.5:1) who, because of his great love for us all, gave his only begotten Son to save everyone who believes on him. JN.3:16.

Over the years I have been amazed at the generosity of New Life Church as need after need has been met for people both locally and internationally, displaying the nature of the God whom we serve. Wonderful! Let's keep it up because The Lord himself will repay us! PR.19:17.

Perhaps this coming year you might have a different Christmas list like my friend's. However, your gift need not be money or presents. Nor is it limited to Christmas. How about visiting

someone, spending time to listen to a friend? How about giving someone a word of encouragement or going to pray for a person who may be ill? How about sharing communion with another Christian or doing some shopping for someone? The possibilities are endless.
Celebrate the greatest giver of all ..... Jesus Christ, who gave his life a ransom for many.

With lots of love to all,

Peter.

MESSAGE FROM MARTYN

It’s been that time of year where for many it’s a mad rush, frantically trying to get everything done and pulled together for the big day! …. For others it can be a lonely time of year that they just wish would pass quickly so, “we can get on with life as normal!”

For Christians it’s a reminder of the birth of our Lord and “Saviour”, remember …
“She [Mary] will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Mt 1:21
Even before he was born the Holy Spirit was pointing towards his purpose on Earth. Born as a baby so he could grow into a man,
“And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” Luke 2:52
He came from heaven to Earth, showing us just what God is like; loving, merciful, powerful, fair, righteous, patient and generous to name but a few!
This time of year people are open to a bit of “Good News.” The season of peace and good will etc. “
Whatever we think of Christmas, remember to be:

generous in spirit, (don’t be a grump even if you feel like it, be a joy giver … not a joy stealer!)

generous in love, (seek the best for others, that’s what love does! 1Corinthians 13

generous in kindness, (go the extra mile, it’s in the New Testament somewhere!)

generous in giving, (whatever you give, time, love, money, mercy, forgiveness .. do it generously, Jesus gave abundantly, he didn’t lose out, neither will you!)

generous in forgiveness, (let go of the hurts and be reconciled to family and friends, forgive and ask forgiveness for your part, whatever their part!),

generous in hospitality, (think of those who might be alone and invite them in, and if you are someone who might be alone .. invite someone else who might be alone then you won’t be alone, seize the initiative!!  Someone once said, “do unto others as you would want it done to you, only do it first!!),

generous with the Good News of Jesus Christ. (The good you tell today could be someone else’s eternal life tomorrow! People really can live through the word that God speaks out of our mouths!)  In this way we will be like him in this world that so desperately needs some good news!

What a great year that lies ahead, this new year can be the birth of something great in all of us!
Remember the purpose of our being born again … to be like Jesus in this world … how will you be like him, how will you fulfil his purpose in you in 2014?
Have a happy & a prosperous New Year.

Much love,

Martyn & Gill xxx

MESSAGE FROM DAVE

Message from Dave

We look forward with great anticipation for what God has in store for us in 2014.  Already we have booked the Watoto African Children’s Choir for April and we are believing for great growth. The Winding Wheel full to brimming over and all that means in much salvation.

We thank God for all those saved this year and have been added to us.  Keep strong, keep focused on Christ and let nothing distract you from his purposes, his Church and his Kingdom.

We thank God for his miraculous intervention in healing of Amy Orwin’s heart where her artery was unblocked and the healing of Amy Willis’ teeth and gums.  What a good God we have!

Praise God for the summer BBQ and the Alpha Courses and thank you to all those who put so much hard work into them.  The home groups have grown, the After School Club in Alfreton has continued successfully. The School of the Word and of Prophecy went on through the year now running alongside the Worship Central course which is reaching people beyond our church.

The Pastoral team has worked well, particularly within the meetings and various groups have continued to pray including the fortnightly prayer meeting at our home.

As part of our world vision, Martyn took a team of people to India to help in the church and orphanages.  Faye went on mission to Brazil and Matthew goes to Rwanda for three months starting in January.  The Soul Survivor & Focus Bible Camps as well as Community YoungStars went well this summer with lots of support from our church.

As leader of Christians Together for Chesterfield I’m so pleased our Street Pastors are so well established and so effective,  that the Food Bank in Chesterfield grows all the time and that we will  soon also have School Pastors.  A lot of the credit for the hard work goes to Jacky and our management team.

Praise God for the already established Living Hope Food Bank in Holmewood.  So many people have been helped and some have found Christ.

If I have goals for next year they are: growth, growth, growth and ….growth!

  • Growth numerically as we see many saved. Perhaps everyone winning one to Christ.  Every household receiving the gospel.  My prayer is that many children and families will find their home with us.
  • Growth in spirituality as we are steadfast, Christ-centred and so full of him. That we would stand strong and not waiver so that we can be mothers and fathers to others.
  • Growth in commitment to gathering together and the spiritual dynamic that brings.  For God to have priority in our lives.
  • Growth in the evidence of the miraculous and gifts that come with an outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Sincerely, I want to thank you all.  You have been such a blessing to me and my family and burdens are being lifted.  Your reputation carries across the town and this is what they think:
“NLC punch well above their weight!”
“NLC can always be relied upon, they make things happen.”
I would like to think it could be said of us:

“The Lord’s message rang out from you…….your faith in God has become known everywhere.”    (1 Thessalonians 1:8)

Get ready for an amazing New Year!

Dave
