WORD TO THE CHURCH SUNDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER

As I was upgrading the operating system of my phone, I felt The Lord say the following:
It is time to upgrade and update your operating system.  No longer must you be content with a mixture of Spirit and flesh because the two don't mix, they oppose.  Receive a new download of My Spirit, which is your new operating system, for there is much that I want to take you into but you must receive a new infilling of My Spirit if you are to operate fully and freely in the days ahead.  There are things coming which will make no sense to the natural mind, so upgrade now!

Be people of My Word and My Spirit.  Remember that friendship with the world is enmity with Me.  Draw near to me in faith and be refreshed in My Spirit.  Tune in again!  Live in My Word and live freely, for My Kingdom shall be established in fullness.  Only people of the Word and Spirit will bring the Kingdom to bear in these days so receive a new download of grace, love and walk in the truth.

PRAYER REQUEST FOR TEAM IN CALCUTTA

Please would you pray for Gaynor's son Dave and his wife Becca who are part of a team from New Life Church in Derby on mission in Calcutta, India at the moment.  They are working with homeless children who live around the railways dodging the police and trying to make a living by collecting plastic bottles.  It's a dangerous lifestyle and they have little opportunity just to be children.  The team are doing a fantastic job, working really hard in difficult conditions.  Please support them in prayer.

NLC HOSTS NEW WORSHIP CENTRAL COURSE STARTING 5TH OCTOBER

Hosted by New Life Church at St John's, Walton Back Lane, Walton 9am - 12noon on Saturday 5th October and continuing on the first Saturday of the month through into next year.  Co-written by Al Gordon and Tim Hughes this course consists of 7 sessions focusing on different aspects of worship and the role of worship teams.

When Gail Robinson and Helen Russell first saw this course they were struck by the potential benefit to NLC from such excellent teaching.  Rather than keep such a good thing to ourselves they decided to open it up and extend an invite to all the churches in our area.  So if you want to learn more about worship or to challenge yourself to grow in your worship get this date in your diary and we look forward to seeing you there on Saturday.  Contact Gail for more information 07808 448746.

WHOLE CHURCH MEETING THIS SUNDAY 29TH SEPT

This Sunday is a joint meeting 10.30am at The Winding Wheel, Chesterfield.  Always a dynamic time when we meet together and this time it is also 'Back to Church Sunday' so we are inviting anyone who's been thinking of giving church a try or maybe never been to church to make this the week.  Lucy is leading us in worship and Dave has a preach to ignite the fire of faith and rekindle a passion for God.  We're going to have a great morning together.  See you there!

COMPASSION SUNDAY

Talita gave a great presentation in Chesterfield today about the work of the charity 'Compassion'.  Through sponsorship of individual children the charity works with local churches to achieve amazing results.  As a Christian charity they work to provide the vital support and education the children need now but also to tell them the good news about Jesus which will transform their lives for ever.
If you've thought about becoming a sponsor and can commit to £21 per month it's not too late, just have a chat one Sunday with Ben or Talita.

FEEDING THE 1,000 AT CHESTERFIELD NEW LIFE BBQ

With torrential rain the night before and storm force winds and rain forcast for the day after we are so grateful for the weather God blessed us with today for our BBQ in the grounds of the Crooked Spire. Great support from the church: arriving early to get everything set up and working so hard through the day to keep things running smoothly.  700 burgers and 300 sausages cooked today and served with a smile to anyone who wanted to join us for a free lunch.  Great live music from our worship team and good to have our friends with us from Gateway Fellowship and Grace Chapel.

We've had lots of opportunities to talk to guests today and to invite people along to the Alpha Course which starts on 25th Sept at The Parish Centre.  So far we have 12 people who have expressed an interest in coming along to the introductory session.  Brill!

CHESTERFIELD SUNDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER

Really enjoyed the worship at Chesterfield this morning - you could tell God was ministering as we reached out to him.  Lisa shared how in the midst of all kinds of pressure and stress she had cried out to God and had felt it all lift from her shoulders.
Dave presented a look back at everything we as a church have achieved over the last two months by the grace of God. 'We are punching well above our weight!'  Lucy talked about her time as a volunteer in India this summer and presented a great slideshow of her pictures of the children she worked with.  There were also pictures from YoungStars, Scarborough, Party in the Park and Focus.  How did we fit it all in?
Alison encouraged us that now is not the time to take our feet of the pedals and freewheel - we need to keep pushing ahead in the kingdom of God.  God had stirred her up with some new strategies to see more increase in the church: Cafe Church for teens, new ideas to support children's ministry, a drop-in advice centre, increased pastoral support through mentoring.

We ended by breaking bread together - using a 'Desperate Dan' sized loaf (we have a very big God!).

One more piece of good news - Patrick and Faye have announced their engagement.  Congratulations to you both!

PUT THE PARTY IN YOUR HEART ALFRETON!

We reckon it was the best Party in the Park so far with lots of takers for the free craft activities and Marvellous Martyn's Magic Tricks.  The queue for the free face painting was constant through the afternoon and a lot of fun was had in the sports races.

We began at 12noon with a time of worship led by Richard and the band which coincided with the first influx of people into the park some of whom stopped to listen or to join in.  During the afternoon we were treated to duets from Lucy & Katie as well as Mark & Emma.

A really good day and a big thank you to everyone who helped to make it a success.  (Visit our facebook page to see an album of more photos from the day).
